MLB outfielder and second baseman who began his major league career with the Boston Red Sox in 2014. He made his first All-Star game in 2016, a year in which he hit 31 home runs to go along with 113 RBIs, 122 runs and a .318 batting average.
He was an excellent high school basketball player, being named District 12-AAA League MVP. He was named Offensive Player of the Year and Breakout Player of the Year in the Red Sox minor league system.
His parents chose his full name, Markus Lynn Betts, intending that his initials would be "MLB."
He was born to Diana Benedict and Willie Betts. His uncle is 14-year MLB veteran Terry Shumpert.
He has been teammates on the Red Sox with fellow second basemen Dustin Pedroia.
