Professional Surfer who is known for his big wave riding style. He is also known for being the online personality and host of several World Surf League webcasts. He has also been featured in several surf documentaries and feature films and continues to share surfing content to his over 50,000 Instagram followers.
With an early entry into surfing from his father, he began surfing and competing in big wave events. In 1998, he earned recognition by being voted the eighth best Surfer in the world at the Surfer Poll Awards. In October of 1999, his career grew further as he was towed into the biggest wave ever ridden on the West Coast at the time.
He has won several awards for his big wave surfing including the Big Wave World Champion in 2012 and the highly coveted Mavericks Champion in 2013. He is also a voice over personality for Mattel Inc.
He was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California. His father John owned a surf shop which inspired his passion for the sport.
He was featured in the Riding Giants documentary directed by Stacy Peralta as well as the film Chasing Mavericks directed by Michael Apted.
